Limited Applications:

  • This capacitor is designed for general electronic circuits. For applications requiring high reliability and safety where failure could jeopardize human life or property, it is necessary to verify product specifications and consult with the manufacturer.
  • Do not use in the following conditions: in liquid, direct sunlight, outdoors, dusty environments, vapor (dew condensation, water leakage, salty air), high concentration corrosive gas atmospheres (Cl2, H2S, NH3, SO2, NOx), strong static electricity or electromagnetic waves, near heat-generating components or inflammables, sealed or coated with resin, using certain cleaning agents (especially water or water-soluble cleaners), atmospheres with stray acid or alkaline, excessive vibration and shock, low pressure or decompression.

Circuit Design:

  • Prohibited Circuits: High impedance voltage retention circuits, coupling circuits, time constant circuits, circuits greatly affected by leakage current, and series connections of two or more POSCAPs for increased endurance voltage are prohibited.
  • Failure Modes: The main failure mode is short circuit, which can lead to heat generation and potential ignition. Implement protective circuits and consider safety measures such as turning off power and keeping a safe distance. Wear-out failure (open circuit) can occur after exceeding endurance and damp heat guarantees.
  • Stress Reduction: Use within rated voltage. Extended time to failure can be achieved by using capacitors at reduced environmental temperatures, ripple current, and applied voltage.
  • Operating Temperature and Ripple Current: Ensure operating temperature is within specified ranges and do not exceed allowable ripple current to prevent exceeding rated temperature.
  • Leakage Current: Leakage current may increase slightly under certain conditions (soldering, high temperature/humidity storage, temperature cycling without voltage). Applying voltage below maximum operating temperature can restore leakage current.
  • Rapid Charge/Discharge: Restricted to maintain reliability. Protective circuits are recommended for excessive rush current (main cause of short circuit and large leakage current). Use a protection resistor (approx. 1 k) for charge/discharge when measuring leakage current.

Mounting:

  • Protective Circuits: Implement protective circuits and devices for safety, especially considering the short circuit failure mode and associated heat generation.
  • Soldering: Adhere to specified soldering conditions to prevent degradation of electrical characteristics and lifetime.
  • Temperature/Frequency Fluctuations: Electrical characteristics are affected by temperature and frequency. Design circuits after checking fluctuation amounts.

Storage:

  • Store POSCAPs sealed in the reel and storage bag at room temperature and humidity (15-35 C, 45-75% RH), away from direct sunlight.
  • Unseal the storage bag just before mounting and use within the bag.
  • Storage period of unopened products should be 18 months or shorter after shipment from the factory.
  • POSCAP is not compatible with JEDEC J-STD-020, J-STD-033.
