Application Guidelines - Circuit Design
- Operating Temperature and Frequency: Electrical parameters vary with temperature and frequency. Consider these changes in circuit design.
- Common Application Conditions to Avoid: Reverse Voltage, Charge/Discharge Applications, Over voltage, Ripple Current.
- Using Two or More Capacitors: Parallel connections may cause ripple current imbalance; series connections may cause voltage imbalance.
Application Guidelines - Capacitor Handling
- Considerations Before Using: Finite life, transient recovery voltage, increased leakage current after long storage, damage from dropping or denting.
- Capacitor Insertion: Verify capacitance, rated voltage, polarity, hole spacing, and avoid stress on leads.
- Soldering: Observe temperature and time specifications, avoid stress on leads, avoid touching capacitor body with soldering iron.
- Circuit Board Cleaning: Use suitable solvents and temperatures, avoid specific solvent groups, ensure thorough drying.
- Mounting Adhesives and Coating Agents: Avoid halogenated solvents and chloroprene based polymers.
Precautions for Using Capacitors
- Environmental Conditions: Avoid extreme temperatures, direct contact with water/oil, high humidity, toxic gases, ozone, radiation, vibration, and shock exceeding specifications.
- Electrical Precautions: Avoid touching terminals, avoid short-circuiting terminals with conductive materials.
Emergency Procedures
- If pressure relief vent operates, immediately turn off equipment.
- Avoid contact with escaping electrolyte gas. Follow first aid procedures for eye/skin contact or ingestion.
Long Term Storage
Leakage current increases with long storage. Reconditioning may be required by applying rated voltage in series with a 1000 resistor for 30 minutes. Products over eighteen months old should be returned for confirmation.
Capacitor Disposal
Incinerate after crushing or puncturing, or dispose of as solid waste. Follow local laws and incinerate at high temperatures to prevent toxic gas release.
