Environment-related Substances
Refers to the latest document of Environment-related Substances standard (WI-HSPM-QA-072). Controlled substances include Heavy metals (Cadmium, Lead, Mercury, Hexavalent chromium), Chlorinated organic compounds (PCB, PCN, PCT, SCCP), Brominated organic compounds (PBB, PBDE), etc.
Application Guidelines
Circuit Design: Considerations for operating temperature and frequency effects on electrical parameters (leakage current, capacitance, ESR, tan, impedance). Avoidance of common misapplication conditions such as reverse voltage, charge/discharge applications, over voltage, ripple current, and pulse current. Guidelines for using capacitors in series or parallel, and mounting considerations including circuit board design, hole spacing, clearance for pressure relief vents, and wiring near vents. Electrical isolation requirements are also detailed.
Capacitor Handling Techniques: Precautions before using (finite life, transient recovery voltage, leakage current increase with storage, mechanical damage). Insertion guidelines (verify capacitance, voltage, polarity, hole spacing). Manual and flow soldering recommendations, including temperature and time limits. Post-soldering handling, circuit board cleaning procedures (acceptable solvents, drying, contamination monitoring), and use of mounting adhesives/coating agents.
Precautions for Using Capacitors: Environmental conditions to avoid (temperature extremes, water contact, high humidity, toxic gases, radiation, vibration/shock). Electrical precautions (avoid touching terminals, prevent short circuits). Emergency procedures for vent operation (turn off equipment, avoid contact with electrolyte/gas, first aid). Long-term storage recommendations (reconditioning with a current limiting resistor).
Capacitor Disposal: Methods include incineration after crushing or puncturing, or disposal as solid waste, following local laws.
