Application Guidelines
When designing circuits, consider the effects of operating temperature and frequency on electrical parameters. Avoid misapplication conditions such as reverse voltage, charge/discharge applications, overvoltage, and excessive ripple current. When using capacitors in series or parallel, ensure proper voltage or current balancing. Pay attention to capacitor mounting considerations including circuit board design, hole positioning, and clearance for pressure relief vents. Ensure electrical isolation of the capacitor. Handle capacitors with care, verify polarity before insertion, and follow proper soldering techniques. Circuit board cleaning requires appropriate solvents and drying procedures. Avoid using capacitors in environments exceeding rated temperature limits or exposed to water, corrosive gases, or excessive vibration.
Capacitor Handling Techniques
Handle capacitors with care to avoid mechanical or electrical damage. Verify correct capacitance and rated voltage before use. Ensure correct polarity before insertion. Avoid stressing terminals during insertion and soldering. Follow specified soldering temperatures and times. After soldering, avoid moving the capacitor to prevent stress on lead wires. Use appropriate cleaning solvents and drying procedures. Avoid using capacitors in environments exceeding rated temperature limits or exposed to water, corrosive gases, or excessive vibration.
Emergency Procedures
If the pressure relief vent operates, immediately turn off equipment and disconnect from power. Avoid contact with escaping electrolyte gas. In case of contact, flush eyes with water, gargle with water if ingested, and wash skin with soap and water.
Long Term Storage
Leakage current may increase with long storage times. Recondition capacitors stored for over one year by applying rated voltage in series with a 1000 current limiting resistor for 30 minutes. Products with date codes over eighteen months should be returned for confirmation.
Capacitor Disposal
Dispose of capacitors by incineration after crushing or puncturing, or as solid waste, following local laws and regulations.
