Product Description

SAMXON GT SERIES ALUMINUM ELECTROLYTIC CAPACITORS

Product Overview
The SAMXON GT Series is a line of polar aluminum electrolytic capacitors (foil type) designed for use in electronic equipment. These capacitors meet IEC60384 standards and are constructed with a wound element impregnated with electrolyte, enclosed in an aluminum case, and sealed with rubber and a vinyl sleeve. They are suitable for applications requiring reliable capacitance and voltage ratings across a wide temperature range.

Application Guidelines

Circuit Design Considerations:

  • Operating Temperature and Frequency: Electrical parameters vary with temperature and frequency. Higher temperatures increase leakage current and capacitance, decrease ESR. Lower temperatures decrease leakage current and capacitance, increase ESR. Higher frequencies decrease capacitance and impedance, increase tan. Lower frequencies can increase ESR and ripple current heat.
  • Common Application Conditions to Avoid: Reverse Voltage, repeating charge/discharge applications, exceeding rated voltage, and exceeding maximum ripple current.
  • Using Two or More Capacitors: Parallel connection requires careful wiring to balance ripple current. Series connection requires shunt resistors to balance voltage.
  • Capacitor Mounting: Avoid wiring patterns between capacitor and board. Ensure correct hole spacing. Provide clearance for pressure relief vents. Avoid high voltage/current wiring near vents. Avoid circuit board patterns under the capacitor. Tighten screw terminals within specified torque.
  • Electrical Isolation: Ensure complete isolation between cathode and case (except B types), anode terminal and other paths, and extra mounting terminals and other terminals.
  • Capacitor Sleeve: Vinyl sleeve is for identification and not for electrical insulation. It may split at high temperatures after immersion in solvents like toluene or xylene.

Capacitor Handling Techniques:

  • Before Using: Do not reuse capacitors from used equipment. Capacitors have a finite life. Discharge transient recovery voltage if necessary. Leakage current may increase after long storage; recondition with a resistor. Avoid using dropped, dented, or crushed capacitors.
  • Insertion: Verify capacitance, voltage, and polarity. Ensure correct hole spacing to avoid lead stress.
  • Soldering: Observe temperature and time specifications. Avoid stress on lead wires at the seal. Avoid touching the capacitor body with a soldering iron. Do not immerse the capacitor body into the solder bath.
  • Circuit Board Cleaning: Use suitable cleaning solvents, rinse, and dry thoroughly. Avoid halogenated, alkali, petroleum-based solvents, xylene, and acetone unless specified.
  • Mounting Adhesives/Coating Agents: Avoid materials containing halogenated solvents or chloroprene-based polymers. Dry thoroughly.

Precautions for Using Capacitors:

  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid temperatures outside the rated range, direct contact with water/oil, high humidity, toxic gases, ozone, radiation, UV rays, and excessive vibration/shock.
  • Electrical Precautions: Avoid touching terminals due to potential electric shock. Avoid short-circuiting terminals with conductive materials.

Emergency Procedures:

  • If the pressure relief vent operates, turn off equipment immediately. Avoid contact with escaping electrolyte gas. Flush eyes with water if electrolyte enters, gargle if ingested, wash skin with soap and water.

Long Term Storage:

  • Leakage current increases with storage time. Recondition capacitors stored for over one year by applying rated voltage in series with a 1000 resistor for 30 minutes. Products with date codes over eighteen months should be confirmed.

Capacitor Disposal:

  • Incinerate after crushing or puncturing the can wall, or dispose of as solid waste. Follow local disposal requirements.
