Detailed Characteristics

  • Rated Voltage (WV) & Surge Voltage (SV): Available in various ratings from 6.3Vdc to 450Vdc, with corresponding surge voltages.
  • Nominal Capacitance: Specified tolerance is -20% to +20% (Code 'M'). Measured at 120Hz 12Hz, not more than 0.5Vrms, at 202.
  • Leakage Current: Measured after connecting with a 1k 10 protective resistor in series for 2 minutes. Refer to Table 1 for specific values.
  • tan (Dissipation Factor): Measured under the same conditions as nominal capacitance. Refer to Table 1 for limits.
  • Terminal Strength: Tested for tensile and bending strength. Tensile force ranges from 5 N (0.51 kgf) for 0.5mm diameter wires to 10 N (1.0 kgf) for wires over 0.5mm to 0.8mm. Bending force ranges from 2.5 N (0.25 kgf) to 5 N (0.51 kgf) respectively.
  • Temperature Characteristics: Performance evaluated across various temperatures (-40, 20, 105). Impedance ratios at low temperatures are provided for different working voltages.
  • Load Life Test: Tested at 105C 2 with DC bias and rated ripple current for 2000 hours. Criteria include leakage current, capacitance change (within 20%), tan (not more than 200% of specified value), and no electrolyte leakage.
  • Shelf Life Test: Stored at 1052 for 1000+48/0 hours. Tested for leakage current, capacitance change (within 20%), tan (not more than 200% of specified value), and no electrolyte leakage.
  • Surge Test: 1000 cycles of charge (305s) and discharge (5 min 30s) with a surge voltage. Criteria include leakage current, capacitance change (within 15%), tan (within specified value), and no electrolyte leakage.
  • Vibration Test: Tested for 2 hours in 3 mutually perpendicular directions within 10Hz ~ 55Hz frequency range and 1.5mm peak-to-peak amplitude. Criteria include no intermittent contacts, open/short circuits, or mechanical damage.
  • Solderability Test: Tested at 2453, 2mm dipping depth, 252.5mm/s dipping speed, for 30.5s. Requires at least 95% of the immersed surface to be coated.
  • Resistance to Solder Heat Test: Terminals immersed in solder bath at 2605 for 101 seconds or 40010 for 3+0/-1 seconds. Criteria include leakage current, capacitance change (within 10%), tan (within specified value), and no electrolyte leakage.
  • Change of Temperature Test: 5 cycles of temperature changes between +20, rated low temperature (-40 or -25), and +105. Criteria include leakage current, tan, and no electrolyte leakage.
  • Damp Heat Test: Exposed to 90~95% RH at 402 for 5008 hours. Criteria include leakage current, capacitance change (within 20%), tan (not more than 120% of specified value), and no electrolyte leakage.
  • Vent Test: For products with vents (diameter 6.3mm). DC test with reversed polarity. The vent must operate without dangerous conditions.
  • Maximum Permissible Ripple Current: Maximum AC current at 120Hz and maximum operating temperature. Frequency multipliers are provided for different rated voltages and capacitance values.

Environment-related Substances

Refer to the latest document of Environment-related Substances standard (WI-HSPM-QA-072) for controlled substances, including heavy metals, chlorinated organic compounds, brominated organic compounds, and others.

Application Guidelines

  • Circuit Design: Considerations for operating temperature, frequency, reverse voltage, charge/discharge applications, over voltage, and ripple current.
  • Series/Parallel Connection: Guidelines for using multiple capacitors in series or parallel to manage voltage and current imbalances.
  • Mounting Considerations: Recommendations for circuit board design, hole positioning, spacing, clearance for pressure relief vents, wiring near vents, and screw terminal mounting.
  • Electrical Isolation: Requirements for isolating the capacitor from other circuit paths and mounting terminals.
  • Capacitor Handling: Precautions before use, insertion, manual soldering, flow soldering, and after soldering.
  • Circuit Board Cleaning: Guidelines for cleaning solvents, temperatures, and drying procedures.
