Guidelines For Using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor
- Polarity: DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Ensure correct polarity to avoid damage. Not for AC application.
- Bipolar Capacitors: For pulse and polarity-reversal circuits only. Not for pure AC or high ripple current.
- Operating Voltage: Do not exceed rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70-80% of rated voltage for extended life.
- Ripple Current: Do not exceed allowable ripple current to prevent overheating and damage. Generally not more than 80% of rated current.
- Fast Charge/Discharge: Use specially designed capacitors for circuits with frequent charge/discharge cycles.
- Operating Temperature: Characteristics vary with temperature. Lower temperatures ensure longer life.
- Temperature and Life: Life is approximately doubled for every 10 reduction in temperature from the rated temperature.
- Operating Frequency: Capacitance decreases and tg increases with higher frequencies.
- Long Storage: Apply rated DC voltage gradually before use for capacitors stored for a long time to restore leakage current and withstand voltage.
- Case Insulation: The capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal. Insulation measures are required at the mounting point if case insulation is necessary.
- Terminal Force: Do not apply excessive force to terminals or leads to prevent breakage or internal connection failure.
- Circuit Board Cleaning: Use recommended cleaning solvents (e.g., methanol, isopropanol). Avoid halogenated solvents.
- Soldering: Maintain distance from plastic sleeve. Recommended solder bath temperature: within 260, duration: not exceeding 10 seconds.
- Hole Layout: Ensure hole spacing on PCBs matches lead spacing to avoid stress on leads. Consider solder splashing during manufacturing.
