Guidelines For Using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
- Polarity: DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Ensure correct polarity; reversed voltage can cause damage. Use bipolar capacitors if polarity is uncertain. Not for AC applications.
- Bipolar Capacitors: Suitable for pulse and polarity reverse circuits, not for pure AC or high ripple.
- Voltage Application: Do not exceed rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70-80% of rated voltage for extended life.
- Ripple Current: Do not exceed permissible ripple current to prevent overheating and damage. Generally not more than 80% of rated current.
- Fast Charge/Discharge: Use specially designed capacitors for circuits with frequent charge/discharge cycles.
