Guidelines For Using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor
- Polarity: DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Ensure correct polarity to avoid damage. Not for AC applications.
- Bipolar Capacitors: For pulse and polarity reverse circuits only. Not for pure AC or high ripple current.
- Working Voltage: Do not exceed rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70-80% of rated voltage for extended life.
- Ripple Current: Do not exceed allowable ripple current to prevent overheating and damage. Generally not more than 80% of rated current.
- Fast Charge/Discharge: Use specially designed capacitors for circuits with rapid charge/discharge cycles.
- Operating Temperature: Characteristics vary with temperature. Lower temperatures ensure longer life.
- Temperature and Life Relationship: Life approximately doubles for every 10 decrease in temperature. Formula: L2 = L1 * 2^((T1-T2)/10).
- Operating Frequency: Capacitance decreases and tg increases with higher frequencies.
- Long Storage: For capacitors stored for a long time, gradually apply rated DC voltage before use to address increased leakage current and reduced withstand voltage.
- Case Insulation: Capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal. Insulation measures are required at the mounting point if case insulation is necessary.
- Terminal Force: Do not apply excessive force to terminals or leads to prevent breakage or internal connection failure.
- Circuit Board Cleaning: Use recommended cleaning solvents (methanol, isopropanol, ethanol, etc.). Avoid halogenated solvents.
- Soldering: Maintain distance from plastic sleeve. Solder bath temperature within 260, duration not exceeding 10 seconds.
- Hole Layout: Ensure mounting hole spacing matches lead spacing on PCBs to avoid stress on leads.
