Guidelines For Using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor
- Polarity: DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Ensure correct polarity to prevent damage. Not for AC application.
- Bipolar Capacitors: For pulse and polarity reverse circuits, not for pure AC or high ripple current.
- Working Voltage: Do not exceed rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70-80% of rated voltage for extended life.
- Ripple Current: Do not exceed permissible ripple current to prevent overheating and damage. Generally not more than 80% of rated current.
- Fast Charge/Discharge: Use specially designed capacitors for circuits with frequent charge/discharge cycles.
- Operating Temperature: Characteristics vary with temperature. Lower temperatures ensure longer life.
- Temperature and Life: Life doubles for every 10C reduction in temperature.
- Operating Frequency: Capacitance decreases and tg increases with higher frequencies.
- Long Storage: Apply rated DC voltage treatment before use after prolonged storage to restore leakage current and withstand voltage.
- Case Insulation: Capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal. Insulation measures are required at the mounting point if case insulation is needed.
- Terminal Force: Do not apply excessive force to terminals or leads to prevent breakage or internal damage.
- Circuit Board Cleaning: Use recommended solvents (methanol, isopropanol, etc.). Avoid halogenated solvents.
- Soldering: Maintain distance from plastic sleeve. Recommended temperature within 260C and duration not exceeding 10 seconds.
- Hole Layout: Ensure correct hole spacing on PCBs to avoid stress on leads.
