Operating Conditions & Cautions
Operating Voltage: Maintain Vp-p or Vo-p within rated voltage range for AC/ripple circuits. Account for irregular voltages during power transitions. Pulse voltage ratings are also specified.
Operating Temperature and Self-Generated Heat: Keep surface temperature below the upper limit of the rated operating temperature range. Self-generated heat due to dielectric loss should be within 5C under 25C ambient temperature when subjected to high-frequency or pulse currents. Use a thermocouple of small thermal capacity for measurement.
Operating and Storage Environment: Avoid corrosive atmospheres (chloride gas, sulfide gas, acid, alkali, salt) and moisture. Ensure at least 3mm of insulating media (e.g., epoxy resin, silicone oil) in each direction. Storage temperature and humidity should not exceed -10 to 40C and 15 to 85% respectively. Use within 6 months of delivery.
Vibration and Impact: Do not expose to excessive shock or vibration.
Soldering: Adhere to solder heat resistance specifications (Iron-tip: 400C max., Wattage: 50W max., Time: 3.5s max.) to prevent internal damage and thermal shock.
Limitation of Applications: Contact HVC before using in applications requiring especially high reliability, such as aircraft, aerospace, medical, and transportation equipment.
Cleaning: For ultrasonic cleaning, observe conditions: Rinse bath capacity 20 watts/liter, Rinsing time 5 min. Do not vibrate PCB/PWB directly.
Capacitance Change: Class 1 capacitors show slight changes with temperature/voltage. Class 2 and 3 capacitors (e.g., B, E, F characteristics) have aging characteristics and significant changes with temperature/voltage, making them unsuitable for strict time constant circuits.
Testing
Visual Examination
- Appearance & Dimensions: Visually examined or measured with Vernier Calipers.
- Marking: Must be easily legible.
Electrical Performance Tests
- Dielectric Strength (Between Lead Wires): No failure when 150% of rated DC voltage is applied for 60s.
- Body Insulation: No failure when 15kV DC is applied for 10s.
- Insulation Resistance (I.R.): Measured with DC 1kV within 605s of charging.
- Capacitance: Within specified tolerance, measured at 20C, 10.2kHz, AC5V(r.m.s.) max.
- Dissipation Factor (D.F.): Same conditions as capacitance measurement.
- Temperature Characteristic: Capacitance change measured at various temperatures (-4700ppm/C at 20C, N4700 at 85C).
Mechanical Performance Tests
- Strength of Lead Pull: Lead wire shall not cut off, capacitor shall not be broken when 10N tensile weight is applied for 101s.
- Bending: Lead wires subjected to 5N weight, 90 bends in both directions.
- Solderability of Leads: Lead wires uniformly coated after dipping in methanol solution and molten solder (2355C for 20.5s).
- Soldering Effect: No marked defect after immersion in 35010C solder for 3.50.5s. Capacitance change within 10%. Dielectric strength (between lead wires) no failure.
Company Profile
HVC Capacitor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. is a Hong Kong-funded enterprise established in January 2012. It is an export operation brand founded by a Taiwanese manufacturer with over 20 years of experience in high-voltage ceramic products. The production base is located in Humen, Dongguan, with 95% of products exported. HVC specializes in high-voltage ceramic capacitors, including blue ceramic disc types and bolt-type ceramic capacitors. Their ceramic disc capacitors offer voltages from 2KV to 50KV. They possess a unique patented N4700 military-grade ceramic dielectric material (N4700 material for 6KV to 40KV), primarily used in high-end medical electronic equipment such as CT, medical X-ray machines, C-arms, DR, dental X-ray machines, airport security, non-destructive testing, and electrostatic dust removal equipment. The bolt-type ceramic disc capacitors, featuring N4700 material, cover a voltage range of 10KV to 150KV and are encapsulated in black epoxy resin. Key clients include General Electric, Konica Minolta, Hitachi ABB, Nikon, Siemens, Johnson & Johnson, and Baker Hughes, along with numerous Nasdaq-listed medical equipment companies. HVC's business philosophy is to produce high-quality electronic components meeting foreign high-end industrial standards using Chinese military-grade materials. Since 2017, HVC has effectively filled the supply-demand gap created by the withdrawal of brands like Murata, AVX, and Vishay from the market due to commercial considerations and the pandemic. Since 2018, HVC has expanded its product lines to include high-voltage diodes and high-voltage thick-film resistors through acquisitions and collaborations, gaining recognition from high-voltage equipment customers. HVC has international distributors in Germany, France, the UK, the USA, Japan, South Korea, India, and Russia. To cater to the needs of foreign-invested factories in the Chinese market, they have also established Chinese distributors. HVC aims to become a well-known emerging brand in the high-voltage electronic components industry.
