Technical Specifications

The following guidelines detail the technical considerations for using Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors:

Item Description Key Considerations
Polarity DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Polarity is marked on the capacitor body. Ensure correct polarity to prevent short circuits or damage. Use bipolar capacitors for uncertain polarity. Not for AC applications.
Bipolar Capacitors Used in pulse circuits and polarity reverse circuits. Not suitable for pure AC or high ripple current circuits.
Voltage Do not exceed rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70-80% of rated voltage for extended life. Exceeding rated voltage increases leakage current and may cause damage.
Ripple Current Do not allow excessive ripple current. Exceeding permissible ripple current causes heating, capacitance reduction, and damage. Generally, do not exceed 80% of rated current.
Charge/Discharge Circuits Use specially designed capacitors for rapid charge/discharge cycles. Standard capacitors may be damaged, leading to capacitance decrease and heat rise. Use specialized capacitors for these applications.
Operating Temperature Capacitor characteristics vary with temperature. Lower temperatures ensure longer life. Higher temperatures increase capacitance and leakage current, decrease tg. Lower temperatures decrease capacitance and leakage current, increase tg.
Temperature and Life Life is related to operating temperature. Reducing operating temperature by 10C can double capacitor life at rated temperature. Formula provided for life calculation.
Operating Frequency Capacitance measured at 100Hz or 120Hz. Capacitance decreases and tg increases with higher frequencies, leading to increased ambient temperature.
Storage Capacitors stored for a long time may have increased leakage current and reduced withstand voltage. Before use, gradually apply rated DC voltage.
Case Insulation Capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal. If case insulation is required, implement insulation measures at the mounting point.
Mechanical Stress Do not apply excessive force to terminals and leads. Excessive force can cause lead breakage, terminal separation, and internal connection failure.
Bending Leads For horizontal mounting, maintain a 2mm safe spacing from the capacitor body when bending leads. Failure to do so may cause internal structural damage.
Cleaning Clean circuit boards to remove flux. Avoid halogenated solvents (e.g., trichlorethylene, xylene, acetone). Recommended solvents: methanol, isopropanol, ethanol, isobutanol, petroleum ether, propanol, and detergents.
Soldering Be cautious of temperature and duration. Keep soldering iron away from plastic sleeves. Recommended: within 260C for no more than 10 seconds in a solder bath to prevent damage.
Hole Layout Hole positions on the circuit board should match lead spacing. Incorrect spacing can cause stress on leads, short circuits, or circuit damage. Consider hole layout carefully to prevent solder splashing onto the sleeve.
