| Item | Description |
| Polarity | DC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Bipolar capacitors are suitable for pulse circuits and polarity reverse circuits, but not for pure AC or high ripple current circuits. |
| Voltage | Do not apply voltage greater than rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70% to 80% of rated voltage for extended life. |
| Ripple Current | Do not allow excessive ripple current through the capacitor. Generally, ripple current should not exceed 80% of the rated current. Excessive ripple current causes heat, capacitance reduction, and damage. |
| Charge/Discharge | For circuits with rapid charge and discharge cycles, use specially designed capacitors. |
| Operating Temperature | Capacitor characteristics vary with temperature. Lower operating temperatures ensure longer life. |
| Temperature & Life Relationship | Generally, reducing the operating temperature by 10C doubles the capacitor's life at rated temperature. Formula provided for calculation: Ls = L0 * 2^((T0-Tx)/10) * 10^((Tm-Tx)/5) where L0 is useful life at T0 with ripple current I0, T0 is max operating temp, Tx is actual operating temp, Tm is temp derating factor (5C), Ix is actual ripple current, I0 is rated ripple current. |
| Frequency | Capacitance is usually measured at 100Hz or 120Hz. Capacitance decreases and tg increases with higher frequencies, leading to increased ambient temperature. |
| Storage | For capacitors stored for a long time, apply rated DC voltage gradually before use. Long storage may increase leakage current and decrease withstand voltage. |
| Case Insulation | The capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal. Insulation measures must be taken at the mounting point if the case needs to be insulated. |
| Force on Terminals/Leads | Do not apply excessive force to terminals or leads to prevent breakage, separation, or internal connection failure. |
| Bending Leads | When bending leads for horizontal mounting, maintain a 2mm safe spacing from the capacitor body to prevent internal structural damage. |
| Circuit Board Cleaning | Use recommended cleaning solvents such as methanol, isopropanol, ethanol, isobutanol, petroleum ether, propanol, and general detergents. Avoid halogenated solvents like trichloroethylene, xylene, or acetone. |
| Soldering | Keep soldering irons away from plastic sleeves. Recommended soldering temperature is within 260C for no more than 10 seconds. |
| Hole Layout | Ensure mounting hole spacing on circuit boards matches lead spacing to avoid stress on leads. Consider hole layout carefully to prevent solder splashing onto the capacitor body. |
