ItemDescription
PolarityDC electrolytic capacitors are polarized. Polarity is marked on the capacitor body. Bipolar capacitors are available for applications with uncertain or reversing polarity. DC electrolytic capacitors are not suitable for AC applications.
Bipolar CapacitorsSuitable for pulse circuits and polarity reverse circuits. Not applicable for pure AC or high ripple current circuits.
Voltage UsageDo not apply voltage greater than the rated voltage. Recommended working voltage is 70-80% of the rated voltage for extended lifespan.
Ripple CurrentDo not allow ripple current to exceed the permissible limit, generally not more than 80% of the rated current. Excessive ripple current can cause heating, capacitance reduction, and damage.

Operating TemperatureCapacitor characteristics vary with temperature. Lower temperatures generally ensure longer life.
Temperature and Life RelationshipLife is inversely proportional to temperature. A 10C reduction in operating temperature can double the capacitor's lifespan. A formula is provided for calculating life based on temperature and ripple current.
Operating FrequencyCapacitance is typically measured at 100Hz or 120Hz. Capacitance decreases and Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) increases with higher frequencies, potentially leading to increased ambient temperature.
Storage and HandlingCapacitors stored for extended periods may experience increased leakage current and reduced withstand voltage. Before use, apply rated DC voltage gradually.
Case InsulationThe capacitor case is not insulated from the cathode terminal. Insulation measures are required at the mounting point if case insulation is necessary.
Terminal/Lead ForceAvoid applying excessive force to terminals and leads to prevent breakage, separation, or internal connection failure.
Lead BendingWhen bending leads for horizontal mounting, maintain a 2mm safety distance from the capacitor body to prevent internal structural damage.
Circuit Board CleaningUse recommended solvents (Methanol, Isopropanol, Ethanol, etc.) for cleaning circuit boards. Avoid halogenated solvents (trichlorethylene, xylene, acetone) to prevent damage to the capacitor's sleeve, marking, and sealing materials.
SolderingMaintain distance between the soldering iron and the plastic insulating sleeve. For solder dipping, recommended temperature is within 260C for no more than 10 seconds to prevent damage.
Hole Layout on PCBEnsure mounting hole spacing matches lead spacing to avoid stress on leads. Consider hole layout carefully to prevent solder splashing onto the capacitor's sleeve.
