The Piher PT-15 and PTC-15 are 15-mm through-hole potentiometers designed for applications requiring frequent adjustment. Featuring a shaftless design, they accommodate various engagement mechanisms like customized shafts, motor controls, or human interface adjustments. These potentiometers are suitable for controlling variable outputs such as frequency, motor speed, or volume. They offer excellent performance with up to 3% linearity, a choice of carbon or cermet resistive elements, and up to 38 mechanical detents for tactile feedback. With up to 100,000 life cycles and IP54 protection, they are ideal for demanding applications.

Detents

Available detent options include PAM, P1i, P1F, P02 to P38. Standard mechanical life is 500 cycles. Long life versions are available upon request:

  • Potentiometers with 1 to 3 detents up to 10K cycles.
  • Potentiometers with 4 and more detents up to 5K cycles.

Consult Piher Sensing Systems for unique non-overlapping values at each detent position or LOG/ALOG tapers. Detent torque can vary from 1.2 to 2.5 times the standard potentiometer torque. For versions with more than 13 detents, the detent torque will be 0.5 to 3.5 Ncm. For V18 and V24 mounting, detent configuration will be studied case by case. Stepped Outputs / Constant Value Zones

Constant value zones can be combined with mechanical detents for precise alignment between electrical output and mechanical detent position, ensuring repeatable and stable outputs. This enhances precision in control systems.

Shafts and Thumbwheels

Available in hollow and solid shaft models. Slot (1 x 1.4) perpendicular to wiper position. Figures and references for specific models are provided in the datasheet. Thumbwheel and shafts are delivered unassembled if not specified otherwise. Position of the thumbwheel can be indicated (Initial, 50%, Final). Custom specific positions are available on request. Non-flammable plastic is available for shafts/knobs if the potentiometer is ordered with non-flammable plastic. For compatibility with customer's own plastic shaft/knob/actuator, contact Piher.
