Application Notes
Storage Condition: Environmental temperature 10C+30C, Relative humidity no more than 60%, Storing period no more than one and half year.
Ripple Current and Voltage: Power Dissipated (P) = I ESR. Ripple current (I) calculation is dependent on temperature and frequency derating factors. Ripple voltage is limited by power dissipation, DC voltage rating, and permissible reverse voltage ratings.
Reverse Voltage: Solid tantalum capacitors are polarized. Transient reverse voltage is permissible for short periods: 10% of Max. rated voltage or 1V (whichever is smaller) at 25C; 5% or 0.5V at 85C; 1% or 0.1V at 125C. Continuous use in reverse voltage mode is not allowed.
Working Voltage: For general applications, use 50% of rated voltage or less. For power, low impedance, coupling, or switching circuits with leakage current issues, use voltage under 30% of working voltage (max 50%). Derate voltage when temperature is above 85C.
Protective Resistance: In circuits with instantaneous current (switching, charge/discharge), a series resistance of at least 3/V is recommended. In low impedance circuits, applied voltage should be half or one third of the rated voltage.
Redundancy: MnO tantalum capacitors can heat up and potentially cause fire in short circuit conditions. Design for reliability.
Test Condition: Ambient Temperature 25C; Relative Humidity 60 to 70%; Air Pressure 800 to 1060mbar. Ensure product is fully discharged before testing or use. Reverse polarity is strictly prohibited.
Soldering: Suitable for reflow soldering (reflow temperature 250C, 5 seconds). Manual welding requires specific conditions (25W soldering iron, <300, <3 seconds), avoiding direct contact with the product ontology.
Recommended Soldering Profile Conditions: Refer to IPC/J-STD-020D standard for convection and IR reflow profiles.
Recommended Voltage Derating Guidelines: Max. Application Voltage is 50% of VR for VR 10V and 30% of VR for VR 16V within the -55C ~ 85C range.
