Application Notes
- Load Voltage & Temperature Derating: DC operating voltage must be derated based on operating temperature.
- Protection Resistance: A 1K resistor is recommended for product testing processes (steady state leakage current, withstand voltage). For switching power supply circuits, a resistance of at least 3/V is recommended.
- Reverse Voltage: Tantalum capacitors are polarized and reverse voltage is forbidden. If unavoidable, the applied time must be minimized and not exceed specified voltage limits. Continuous reverse voltage is not permitted.
- Ripple Voltage: Sum of DC and ripple voltage peaks must not exceed rated voltage. Negative peaks must not exceed allowable reverse voltage.
- Ripple Current: Joule heat generated by ripple current affects reliability. Maximum allowable ripple current can be calculated based on power dissipation, ESR, and derating factors.
- Circuit Redundancy: CA45 (MnO2) can heat and burn with high current. CA55 (Conductive Polymer) can crack and fail. Circuit design should include redundancy for high reliability.
- Storage: Recommended vacuum storage. If non-vacuum, maintain 10-30, 60% RH, and avoid corrosive gases. Capacitors exposed after unsealing should be welded within 24h (CA55) or controlled per MSL Grade 1 (CA45). Baking is recommended if storage exceeds one year.
- Soldering: Reflow soldering (SMT) is recommended. Peak temperature (Tp) 250, holding time at peak 5s. Manual soldering: Iron power 25W, temperature <300, time <3s; avoid direct contact with product body.
