Product Overview
ARCOL HS Aluminium Housed Resistors are designed for direct heatsink mounting, manufactured in line with MIL 18546 and IEC 115 requirements to achieve maximum performance. These resistors offer a high power-to-volume ratio and are wound to maximize high pulse capability. They are suitable for applications requiring robust power dissipation and are RoHS Compliant. The range is available from R005 to 100K ohmic values, with custom designs welcomed. For optimal performance, application of thermal compound between the resistor and heatsink is recommended, ensuring the maximum hot spot temperature of 200C is not exceeded.

Note on Non-Inductive Resistors (NHS): Specify by adding 'N' before the HS Series code (e.g., NHS50). NHS ohmic value is divided by 4 of the standard HS maximum value. NHS working volts are divided by 1.414 of the standard HS maximum working voltage.
Characteristics:
- Tolerance (Code): Standard 5% (J) and 10% (K). Also available 1% (F), 2% (G) and 3% (H).
- Tolerance for low values: Typically R05 5%, R047 10%.
- Temperature coefficients: < 1K 100ppm Std., > 1K 25ppm Std. For lower TCRs please contact Arcol.
- Insulation resistance (Dry): 10,000 M minimum.
- Power dissipation: Derates linearly to zero at 200C at high ambient temperature.
- Ohmic values: From R005 to 100K depending on wattage size.
Ordering Procedure:
- Standard Resistor: Series, Watts, Ohmic Value, Tolerance Code (e.g.: HS25 2R2 J).
- Non-Inductive Resistor: Add 'N' to the Series code (e.g.: NHS100 10R J).
Heat Dissipation: For maximum heat transfer, apply heat sink compound between the resistor base and heat sink chassis mounting surface. Ensure the maximum hot spot temperature of 200C is not exceeded by mounting on a heat sink of correct thermal resistance for the power being dissipated. Uprating is not recommended when using proprietary heat sinks with lower thermal resistances.
